Estimator/ Inside Sales Representative

Sun Prairie location

The Estimator/ Inside Sales Representative will be a primary point of contact, ensuring customer’s specifications are executed to the highest standard. The role will require reviewing and estimating of plans, proposals, basic mathematical knowledge, and other documentation to be analyzed and communicated on time to meet the customer’s needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop estimates of materials based on proposals from customers
  • Communicates with customers and builders to review estimates and materials, establishing a point of contact and maintaining highly professional customer relationships
  • Secure new customer accounts by developing new customer relations, analyzing previous clients, builders, and reviewing rejected proposals
  • Estimate the cost for residential and commercial wood roof truss, floor truss and wall panel systems according to company standards and local building code.
  • Notifying customers of special orders, delays, unpaid invoices, and various project details
  • Complies with all safety and company standards, ensuring the safety of all employees, customers, and others
  • Knowledgeable on all products, materials, and services to provide the most accurate information
  • Ability to negotiate with suppliers and customer to maximize profitability, while also maintaining business relationships
  • Assists sales associates with retail store purchases, material lists, and other customer orders
  • Assist sales team with blueprint reading and construction procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the branch manager.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • 2 or more years field related experience in estimating, construction and building materials
  • Strong customer services, interpersonal, and communications skills
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical equations daily
  • Able to move items of 25 pounds frequently
  • Proficient in PC’s and Outlook
  • Valid Driver’s License

Inside Sales / Dispatcher

The Inside Sales / Dispatcher position will assist customers and contractors with orders and purchases identifying requirements and alternatives, advise and recommend additional products, and calculate quantities and pricing. This position will provide a high level of customer service to all vendors, customers, potential customers and all business partners to ensure a good working relationship. As Dispatcher you will organize the daily delivery schedule to best utilize and economize manpower, equipment, and other company resources. Provide scheduling to accommodate customer requirements and requests, within reason

Key Responsibilities:
Counter / Inside Sales

  • Greet, service, and direct customers and contractors
  • Receive, answer, and transfer incoming calls professionally and promptly
  • Handle transactions through the register, receive and execute paid on accounts, tenders appropriate change and receipt
  • Assemble or match vendors’ shipping documents with order, file purchase orders/buck-slips, acknowledgements of vendor invoices
  • Execute sales invoices, including credit cards, extend priced invoices
  • Enter inventory to database as required
  • Recommend and exercise inventory control, maintain stock
  • Assemble and place orders
  • Assist with estimating-take-offs, pricing, extending, calculating…etc.
  • Maintaining price books, catalogues, reference materials
  • Maintain, organize a neat, clean work area and assist fellow employees with housekeeping
  • Report all injuries and incidents as they are identified
  • Maintain security and confidentiality of all data and information developed and exposed to, as well as physical security of property
  • Develop and maintain product knowledge
  • Listen to and handle minor complaints with the objective of solving the problem

Dispatcher

  • Provide drivers with loading, unloading, and load assembly paperwork, in a timely fashion
  • Applies knowledge of service areas to dispatch sufficient trucks to ensure delivery schedules are met
  • Utilizes delivery software, programs, internet, and email applications to ensure proper delivery scheduling
  • Inform customers of their service status according to delivery schedules as needed
  • Schedule drivers and materials for required loads to be dropped off at, residential homes, job sites or at another Chase Lumber location
  • Schedule PM and required repairs to forklifts, trucks, and other equipment
  • Communicates with management, sales, drivers, and customers on any issues with deliveries
  • Notifies customers when their orders and special orders have arrived and are ready for pick up, or when to expect delivery of items, as appropriate.
  • Reviews documentation submitted by drivers each day to ensure pre-trip inspections are properly completed
  • Manage vehicle fleet, including repair and maintenance logs and documentation
  • Works directly with suppliers, customers, and freight carriers to resolve issues, problems, and order discrepancy issues in a professional and timely manner
  • Assist yard personnel with loading and unloading trucks when necessary
  • Maintains current industry knowledge through publications and legislation, and shares pertinent information with personnel as appropriate
  • Advise manager of low inventory levels
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in construction or building materials industry
  • Knowledge of building materials
  • Personable and strong communication skills
  • Strong trouble-shooting skills
  • Able to lift 75lbs occasionally, in a consistently safe manner
  • Bend, stoop, or squat on a repetitive basis
  • Ability to read and use measuring materials
  • Time-management and prioritization skills

Lumberyard Foreman

The Senior Lumberyard Forman is responsible for the supervision and coordination of yard activities including loading, unloading, storing, transferring, and distributing materials such as lumber, millwork, sheet rock, insulation, and other various building materials in the yard. This person oversees the safe, efficient day-to-day operations, monitors the maintenance of equipment and verifies the accuracy of deliveries and receipt of shipments.

Key Responsibilities:
Foreman

  • Responsible for the direction and leadership of yard personnel.
  • Enforce adherence to and keep in compliance with all company goals, policies, procedures, and rules of Chase Lumber.
  • Prioritize, assign, and supervise the correct and efficient load-building or bunking of orders for accurate and on-time deliveries
  • Keep up with the flow of the day to keep the loads pulled and ready to be put on the trucks as they come back for their next runs.
  • If there is a driver shortage fill in as back up, to include making deliveries
  • Maintain control over and help walk-in, or pick-up, and B2B customers.
  • Ability to recognize customer satisfaction and dissatisfaction with materials being loaded and resolve issues for customers
  • Supervise the flow of inventory from receiving to pulling orders and credit returns with accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally to other store personnel, managers, customers, and vendors
  • Other reasonable directives, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Inventory

  • Count and check the quality, quantity, and condition of all incoming and outgoing products.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure the proper stock of materials is maintained, coordinate with and keep Buyer up to date on what materials need to be purchased.
  • Complete physical up-to-date-inventory of stock merchandise in a regular cycle basis and year-end counts.
  • Respond to or report any variances or shortages in inventory.
  • Ensure incoming and outgoing deliveries are consistent with purchase orders in quantity and quality prior to accepting delivery or unloading products off trucks or prior to loading trucks to go out for delivery.

Safety and Efficiency

  • Keep the yard safe for customers and employees by following guidelines to make sure forklifts/trucks are maintained and make use of all provided safety equipment.
  • Ensure daily truck inspections occur, notables addressed, and trucks and forklifts are mechanically safe to operate
  • Be able to perform general organization and housekeeping/landscaping of the yard
  • Responsible for the proper unloading of vendor trucks as well as the safe and orderly storage of products received, such as whether or not windows, doors…etc needs to be hand unloaded or loaded or use forklift to unload or load plywood and lumber
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency.
  • Ensure the safe and orderly receipt, storage, and delivery of all special items as appropriate.
  • Comply and enforce the safety and environmental programs, including DOT, OSHA, EPA and state and city ordinance requirements consistent with storage, handling, and transport of materials.
  • Be able to use power tools and saws safely, make rough cuts

Other Requirements:

  • Must have 3-5 years of experience in construction industry or with building materials
  • Able to lift 75lbs frequently, in a consistently safe manner

The Yardman/Driver will be engaged in loading, unloading, storing, transferring, and distributing materials such as lumber, millwork, sheet rock, insulation, and various other building materials in yard. The Yardman/Driver will be responsible for delivering materials to drive sites, inspecting and maintaining trucks, and being a positive representation of the company while traveling.

Key Responsibilities:
General

  • Work with Dispatch or store manager to keep up with the flow of the day, to keep the loads pulled and ready to be put on the trucks as they come back for their next runs.
  • Maintain control over and help walk-in or pick-up retail customers and business to business customers.
  • Receive and pull orders and credit returns with accuracy.
  • Load and unload trucks, bunking materials correctly
  • Ability to recognize customer satisfaction and dissatisfaction with materials being loaded and resolving customer problems.
  • Be able to perform general organization and housekeeping/landscaping of the yard
  • Be able to use power tools and saws safely, make rough cuts
  • Ability to communicate effectively to other store personnel, managers, and customers
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to follow procedures and make them more efficient
  • Work well independently and in a team environment

Inventory

  • Verifies that incoming materials are inspected, checked for damage, and counted for accuracy.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure the proper stock of materials is maintained, coordinate with and keep Buyer up to date on what materials need to be purchased
  • Complete physical up to date inventory of stock merchandise in a regular cycle basis and year-end counts.
  • Count and check the quality, quantity, and condition of all incoming and outgoing products.
  • Ensure incoming and outgoing deliveries are consistent with purchase orders in quantity and quality prior to accepting delivery or unloading products off trucks or prior to loading trucks to go out for delivery.
  • Report shortages and material issues to manager
